Week #13 Blog, Due Sunday, November 24th by 11:00 pm

Since many of you are still struggling to keep up with the notes and the assignments, we need to do some reflecting.  So, for this weeks blog, you must answer ALL of the following questions:

1.  What does AP mean?  That is, what makes a class an AP class?  How does an AP class compare to a regular level class?
2. What are the benefits of being in an AP class vs. a regular class?
3.  You must give me a valid argument for why you should continue to be in AP Physics.  You must use supporting statements and evidence to support your argument.  What are you willing to do to stay in AP Physics?  What do you need to change going forward to be more successful in this class?  Why should I recommend that you be allowed to take the AP Physics test in May?

Remember, the work load will not decrease. Starting December 1st, there will only be makeup work for missed assignments.  In order to get credit for the makeup assignment it must be completed within ONE WEEK of the missed assignment.  There will be NO MORE EXTRA CREDIT.  Test corrections are due by December 5th and they must be fully explained to receive half of your points back. If you are absent, you are expected to check edmodo for any work you may have missed.  You should be comfortable with the routine and the expectations of this class, so this safety net should no longer be needed.  If you have questions, you need to ask me BEFORE the due date.  Remember, if you have trouble posting to the blog website, you can email your responses to physicswithego@gmail.com or respond on edmodo.com.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment and reply to at least one other comment.  Happy Blogging!

Week 10 Blog, due Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 by 11:00 pm

We took our Unit 3 test on Thursday.  For this week's blog, you need to do reflect on the test and how well you feel you did.  Was this test easier or harder than Unit 2?  What concepts or questions are still confusing or difficult?  Did you attend tutorials?  If so, do you think it helped?  Anything else you want to say or comment on that has to do with the test?  Remember, keep it friendly and scholarly, no texting language.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment and reply to one other person's comment.  If you have trouble posting to blog site, send me your comment and reply by email to physicswithego@gmail.com, through the aldine web site, or post them on edmodo.com.  Happy blogging!

Week 9 Blog, Due Sunday, October 27th, 2013 by 11:00 pm

We are almost finished with the uniform acceleration unit.  Since each unit builds on the previous one,  I would like to know if you are still have any problems translating a given motion into a p-t, a-t, v-t graph or motion map.  If you are still have any trouble with the qualitative graphs or the calculations, what are the specific problems you are having?  If you are starting to catch on, what has helped?  What can I do to help facilitate your learning?  The Unit 3 test is currently planned for next Tuesday, do you think you are ready?  Why or why not? Remember, I am here to help you, but you need to put in the effort for real learning to occur.  If you have trouble posting your comment and reply on this site, post them on edmodo.com or email them to me at physicswithego@gmail.com.  You must post an original comment PLUS a reply to someone else's comment in order to receive full credit.  Happy Blogging!

Week 8 Blog, Due Sunday, October 20th by 11:00pm

We are almost finished with the first 9 weeks!  Time is flying by!  This week I want you to reflect on the notes and labs you have done and put in your interactive notebook.  If you were me and you were going to grade your own notebook, what grade do you think it deserves?  How useful are the notes you have put into it so far?  Do your notes help you with the homework assignments, studying for tests, completing warm ups, etc?  If your notebook has not been a useful tool for you to use in or out of the classroom, what needs to change to make it useful?  Remember, I will be looking at your notebook on either Tuesday or Wednesday so don't tell me its the best notebook ever and then have nothing in it.  Blog Reminders: You must post and original comment PLUS comment on someone else's notebook in order to receive full credit for the blog.  If you have questions, you must contact be BEFORE Sunday evening.  If you have trouble posting to blogger, post your comment and replies on edmodo.com or send it to me in an email at physicswithego@gmail.com.  Happy Blogging!

Week 7 Blog, Due Sunday, October 13th, by 11:00 pm

Last week we started Unit 3: Uniform acceleration.  We are still graphing position vs. time(p-t) and velocity vs. time (v-t).  I want you to compare and contrast the p-t and v-t graphs from the constant velocity unit (unit 2) with p-t and v-t graphs from the uniform acceleration unit (unit 3).  Discuss the differences and explain why you think the graphs look differently (specifically, what is going on with the object's motion to cause the change in the graphs.)  Since I am posting this blog late, I am going to give you a few extra days to get it done.  Your comments and replies need to be posted by Wednesday night.  If you have questions, please let me know.  Remember, if you have trouble posting, you can post your comments and replies on edmodo.com under the link to the blog.  You can also email your response to me through the district website or gmail, respond on twitter, or text your responses.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an ORIGINAL comment PLUS a REPLY to another person's report.  Keep it friendly and clean and most of all, no texting language.  Happy Blogging!

Week 6 Blog, Due Sunday, October 6th by 11:00 pm

This week we started our unit on uniform acceleration.  Think about the two labs we did (the one with the car and the metronome and then the motion detector lab).  What do you remember from physics last year about uniform or constant acceleration?  What problems did you encounter in the lab?  What concepts or graphs are the most confusing?  I know that we just started this unit, so I am not expecting anyone to be an expert already, but I would like to know how comfortable you are with the topic right now.  Remember, to receive full credit for the blog, you must post an original comment AND reply to someone else's comment.  If you have any problems, please contact me by email or on edmodo.  Happy Blogging!

Week 5, Due Sunday, September 29th by 11:00 pm

Some students are still having trouble distinguishing between distance vs displacement and speed vs velocity.  So, for this week's blog I want you to tell me how they are similar to each other and how they are different.  You can choose to compare and contrast either distance and displacement OR speed and velocity.  You do not have to do both.  Also, whichever concept you choose to discuss, give me a real world example.  Your example must be original and not a copy of someone else's post.  If you have any questions, please let me know before Sunday night.  Remember, you post an ORIGINAL comment plus a REPLY to another person's comment.  If you have trouble posting on the blog, you can send me an email through the district website, physicswithego@gmail.com, on twitter @EgoIsAwesome, or on edmodo.com.  Happy Blogging!

Week 4 Blog, Due Sunday, September 22nd by 11 pm

The past few weeks we have done a lot of graphing.  I want to know if you are still struggling with any part of what we have been doing.  To recap, we have graphed data, looked for a relationship in the data (linear/proportional, inverse, quadratic, etc.).  If you still need some practice in one of the areas, please let me know.  If you are more comfortable now, but still not 100% understanding it, then tell me that.  I will use this information to plan activities for warm ups or exit slips to give you guys some extra credit.  If most of you are okay with going forward, then I can plan for less review.  Just a heads up, the next concept we will study will not have all linear data like constant velocity did, so I need to know if you are still struggling with the linearizing piece.  Also, if you haven't tried graphing with Excel, I would like you to try that sometime this week and let me know if you are having trouble with that.  If you are having trouble with matching graphs with motion or motion maps, you can check out this website for extra practice/help:  http://www.theuniverseandmore.com/ This game works best in google chrome.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Remember, in order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment PLUS comment on someone else's post.  If you have any problems posting, you can email me your responses, post it on edmodo.com, etc. Happy Blogging!

Week 3 Blog, Due September 15 by 11:00 pm

Today I let you see your current grade.  I would like to know if you are happy about your grade or not.  If you are happy about your grade, what will you do to maintain it?  If you are not happy about your grade, what are you going to change to raise it up to where you want it?  In my classes, grades are earned, not given. If you do not do the work, you will not do very well in this class.  For the past few weeks, we have been doing basic stuff to build our foundation, but it will get more difficult in the coming weeks. So, I want you all to do some self-reflection and decide what you need to do or change now to be successful in the future. Remember, you must post an original comment plus comment on someone else's post for full credit.  Keep it friendly and clean please.  If you have trouble posting, remember you can use edmodo.com, twitter, email, or text.  Some wise words to remember:
