Week #13 Blog, Due Sunday, November 24th by 11:00 pm

Since many of you are still struggling to keep up with the notes and the assignments, we need to do some reflecting.  So, for this weeks blog, you must answer ALL of the following questions:

1.  What does AP mean?  That is, what makes a class an AP class?  How does an AP class compare to a regular level class?
2. What are the benefits of being in an AP class vs. a regular class?
3.  You must give me a valid argument for why you should continue to be in AP Physics.  You must use supporting statements and evidence to support your argument.  What are you willing to do to stay in AP Physics?  What do you need to change going forward to be more successful in this class?  Why should I recommend that you be allowed to take the AP Physics test in May?

Remember, the work load will not decrease. Starting December 1st, there will only be makeup work for missed assignments.  In order to get credit for the makeup assignment it must be completed within ONE WEEK of the missed assignment.  There will be NO MORE EXTRA CREDIT.  Test corrections are due by December 5th and they must be fully explained to receive half of your points back. If you are absent, you are expected to check edmodo for any work you may have missed.  You should be comfortable with the routine and the expectations of this class, so this safety net should no longer be needed.  If you have questions, you need to ask me BEFORE the due date.  Remember, if you have trouble posting to the blog website, you can email your responses to physicswithego@gmail.com or respond on edmodo.com.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment and reply to at least one other comment.  Happy Blogging!

  1. AP stands for "Advanced Placement." The extra amount of work and more in-depth analysis of a certain topic is what makes an AP class. Compared to a regular class, an AP class is more difficult and has a test toward the end of the year. The benefits of an AP class are that you become much more prepared for college, and AP classes provide more GPA points which are crucial to class rank. I should continue AP Physics, because I've devoted part of my time to this class, and I've done really well. To stay in AP Physics, I am willing to study much more and devote more time to the class. To be more successful, I'd really have to rid of my distractions and focus on my physics homework that serves as a good practice. You should allow me to take the test in May, because, if the AP test is anything like the tests you've given us, I'd say I have the potential to score a 5.

    1. You're not gonna be the only one to get a 5 though. I'm sure you'll pass though honestly.

    2. Immer, you've got the potential to score a 5 on the AP test, especially since you score high A's on my Ms. Ego's tests.

  2. Well AP stands for advanced placement. The difference between AP and regular is evident. In regular one just does what the state(or district) requires. However in AP the learner goes in dept to fully understand what they're learning. And if you pass the AP test you save money in college. I'm doing pretty good in class if anything i think i just to keep up with my homework because that's what usually brings me down. I also think that i'll pass the test and i really want to get a 5.

    3. I think once all of us start to do our homework we will all benefit from the practice. Homework is meant for us to practice what we have already learned.

  3. Well AP stand for Advanced Placement. The different between Regular and AP is more in deep work. In AP the work is more deep with the subject and learn far beyond the basics. While in Regular you just learn the basics and what the district and state requires for each student to learn. As for the AP test it's way to fully test one's skills in the subject plus if you pass you save money in college. To be honest I'm really struggling in the class but I been studying a lot working to understand and get better at the subject. I think I should study more, ask more questions, and keep up with my homework with help me out. I'm not really sure about the AP test I really don't think I can pass it I'll probably just get a 1 or 2.

    1. Well with that type of thinking you'll never do good, think positive and keep studying and get away from any distractions and I am sure that once you do all of that you might begin to do better in class.

  4. AP stands for Advanced Placement, meaning that an AP class will deal with material that is offered at the college level. An AP class will heavily emphasize the minute details of a regular course's instruction. Plus, the AP class offers a test at the end of the year that determines if college credit could possibly be awarded, unlike a regular course, which only awards high school credit for basic knowledge of a subject. If a 3 or higher is scored on the AP test, chances are very likely that one could save money by exempting a course. Another benefit of taking an AP class would be the GPA points that come along with the college level course. I believe that I should continue to be in AP Physics because I have dedicated a significant amount of my leisure time to studying the material and will continue to do so. I will be willing to study more, tutor others, and come to tutorials more frequently to stay in AP Physics. I need to manage my time more wisely to be successful in the class. You should allow me to take the AP Physics test in May because I do fairly well on the tests and homework you administer.

    2. I'm positive you will get a 5 on the AP test, because you understand physics enough to be able to tutor others.

  5. What makes a class AP is the course material that is given to us. The workload will always be above what the rest of the other physics classes are given and it will also be given in weeks of advance in contrast to those in regular. The benefits of being in AP is the learning experience and the college readiness that it prepares us for unlike the regular classes that are nothing compared to what college will be. The main benefit from is to gain college credits for a class while in high school. I should continue in AP physics because first of all it's to late to get out and because I know that as the time continues I will begin to get used to the material in there and will be able to get good grades in my assignments and tests. I am willing to change my daily routine of the way I prioritize my homework. Since I have most of my AP classes in the same day all the work accumulates and it's hard to prioritize. I should be able to take the AP Test because I truly believe that once i have mastered the content that i should be able to get a 3 or above on the test. It would not have been the first AP test that I have taken so I am aware of the stress that comes along as the day of the AP test approaches.

  6. AP stands for Advance Placement and what makes an AP class is that everything goes more in depth. An AP class is nothing compare to a regular class since we move a long much quicker and are expected to grasp knowledge faster as well. The benefits in taking an AP class is that you understand the material better,it gives you a taste of how college classes will be like, and you can earn college credit if you pass the test. While in a regular class you just get the basics and you just earn enough credit to graduate out of high school.I believe I should stay in AP physics, because i'm not failing the class and although I don't do so great on my test I do all the work and always turn everything in. Physics is not my forte, but I do go to tutorials and get tutored after school. I guess I just have to study more because the class isn't as easy as last year and I actually have to put more time into understanding the material. And about the AP test I might not get a 5 but if I continue getting help and pay more attention in class I might just score a 3 or a 4 hopefully.

    1. I truly dig how you emphasized on the importance of understanding. Some people just do things intuitively without really having a true grasp in what they’re doing. I feel that the AP Physics exam is going to call for a higher much deeper understanding than what some have been conditioned to. Then again, I haven’t actually taken the test and I’m just assuming, so I could just easily be wrong.

    2. I know that you will do whatever to make sure you understand the material to at least get a good understanding and from there you'll be ready for the test if you keep on studying.

  7. AP means advanced placement and a student should at least be familiar with what that means when they first step into this unforgiving realm. They should expect the work load to be tough and seemingly impossible. It’s not the average route as a regular course because it requires tenacity and effort for those who can’t easily grasp a concept. Though it isn’t just a mere challenge for the sake of being bold; it has its own benefits that prepare the student for the real world such as for college and beyond. I don’t want to solely rely on words convince you, the instructor, to allow me to remain in the AP Physics course so I will demonstrate it by maintaining an appealing grade and performing well in the subjects that have been or will be introduced. The AP Physics exam isn’t going to be intuitively simple. I will study out of the textbook if I have to; perhaps even seek other methods of studying so I can fully understand what’s going on. Towards the end of my battle, I will summon an elder god or demon to take my place on the day of the test and I will score a flawless victory against that AP exam on May 14. I’m just joking on that small part, but I’m actually going to invest large portions of my time in studying to make sure I score a solid 5. That there should provide more than enough reason to allow for my stay in AP Physics and granted permission for taking the exam.

    3. I don't know, elder gods are very fickle these days. 5th dimensional beings can destroy the mind and cause one to go bonkers but oh well. Investing a lot of time to physic also sounds appealing but I don't know if I could handle it. To be honest, I've not been keeping up with physics do to it being my last class of all the days to have a huge course load schedule besides my B day. These A and B days really have been screwing up my 12 years of leaning on the system and having one of the most time difficult courses on both A and B day my fifth period class. Since they are like the last class, I usually waste a lot of energy leading up towards it. It leaves me fatigue mentally and I feel like I cannot handle it. That would leave me to self wallop in my on self esteem and feel bad for myself for not being capable of pulling myself up. Not trying to say that I am bad at time management because well I am just not that good enough. It seems like whenever I waste a great deal of time trying to focus on a material I forgot. It freaks me out and you know the saying ignorant is bliss. Well I have taken that for granted and I've been clutching on it. Except that I notice that I've been using it too much. It ills me to say that I am not good at a subject even though previously I had been good before. Maybe it was the egg drop experiment last December that made me realize I wasn't capable of building stuff. Or the other projects that I did in the past that wasn't up to standards. Then I look at other projects and their projects seem to be so appealing. I guess I just wanted to learn first hand on what a difficult subject was like. Or was it the Calculus and Trigonometric that crushed my spirits as I sank lower and lower into the zone of failing. Having a B in Trig and a C+ in pre Cal really shows that I may not be on par with everything. I know that I have to let go of these negative thoughts about horrible grades but I don't believe I can let go. I see them on my transcript and I know that if I had payed a little more attention to the formulas or if I had asked even more questions I may had an A or at the very least a B+. But no, currently I'm not setting myself a good example and I had been stressed do to all these changes as a senior. I honestly thought that being a senior wasn't all that difficult but when to comes to college applications, being fearful of my grading system, and it is not because of senioritus. That doesn't exist.

  8. AP stands for advanced placement, what makes a class AP is that AP goes into depth into which regular classes have no clue what it is. This class doesn't compare to a regular class because of the work load and how much more focused and much more drive is needed in order to succeed to recieve AP credit, also in regular classes the bare minimum is needed to pass just to graduate. The benefits of being in an AP class are that we learn more material at a faster pace but also get to experience how a college class might be. I know that I haven't done all my work or turned everything in but I know I must change the way I work and I don't have a choice but to do whatever it is to bring my grade up and make sure that I go to tutoring at least once a week to understand everything. Also I need to make sure I do my homework on time and prioritize all my AP classes first over most things, which dedicating more time will help me more successful on the test but also durring class. I should be recomended to be allowed to take the AP test because once I learn everything and make sure I fully understand the material I should be able to do very well on the test.

  9. AP, like most have stated stands for advanced placement and the rigorous work load and subject material are what differentiates an AP class from a regular class. I myself came from regular physics and i can say that the two classes do differ greatly. AP physics is very specific towards the subject's material and consist of more work than projects. Regular physics was easier and consisted of less work and fun projects. Despite that an AP class has several benefits that a regular class does not have. A regular class goes over the basic concept of the subject while AP goes in depth covering specific parts of the subject. AP also allows you to receive college credit at the end of the year if one has the potential of passing the AP exam, this is a feature a regular class lacks. To be honest i have not performed to the AP standards and it is a shame that i have an A in all my other AP classes except this one. I have not managed my time wisely and I am not proud of myself. The only way to make up for my grades is to attend tutorials which i plan to do after the break. I am willing to invest much of my time towards this subject in order to be successful in this class. Physics is one of my favorite subjects and it would be a shame if i were to be kicked out. Last but not least i should be recommend for the AP exam because i am tenacious towards things that challenge me and although i don't see myself getting a 5 i can surely try my best to get a 3.

  10. AP means Advance Placement. The thing that makes and ap class is how much more in depth things are and how much quicker things go. The difference between this and a regular class is just how fast we move and the work load and study time actually needed. The benefits of AP is that well it goes more in depth so you get more knowledge out of it and of course what everyone else knows and like is we get more grade worth in this class to help with rank. or harm. We also have the chance to obtain some college credit at the end of the year. I most definitely have not been performing my best to stay in this class. Physics was interesting last year but to be honest I only took the class because I wanted to stay in Science national honor Society and i know i am really bad a biology. But i do find physics interesting and I know to get into the swing of things I need to do my homework and maybe begin to go to youtube if i don't get something in class. I am gonna start doing this things and start asking more questions which i kinda have been lately. I want to pass this class with an A and get something out of it. another thing i have to do is do these blogs cause i never do and thats what hurts me. I think I should be recommended for the AP test because i am not ready to give up. I don't want to be defeated by this i can over come this challenge and i plan on doing it.

  11. AP means Advanced Placement which is for students who thrive for a challenge or can manage it. That is, what makes an AP class is the environment put in place which is tough with all of the work set in place. Therefore and AP is different from a regular class because it is set for you to work on your own or get help by friends. Set at a college level.
The benefits for being in AP is the knowledge that you'll get for being in it eventhough if you don't pass the AP test. Its better than being treated like a little baby in a regular class.
I should continue in physics because of the determination I have because as though I fail, I always get better at it and learn from all of the mistakes I make.In which when I get problems wrong in class I always ask how you ended up getting that. That is why I continue with this class which I like. I'm willing to stay afterschool more to catch up with the things I've still got problems with and also for future work because then I'll get a head start from everyone else. What I need to change of this point is to just focus more on this course and study the book because all I need is practice. You should recommend me to take the AP physics test because I know I will get the hang of it and will eventually make all of the mistakes I have of right now my best points and will master them for the future test. Then I'll reach for a high number for the AP test because I know I'll try my hardest reach atleast a 4. Though if I get a 3 I would still be happy with the results of all the hard work that paid off.

What makes a class AP is the work we get.
I think that an AP class is somewhat more difficult than a regular level class
Honestly nothing if you don't have good grades or pass the AP exam.
Physics isn't difficult so far its pretty much memorization such as formulas and how to read a graph which we learned I don't know in elementary school I'm guessing.
Honestly i thing i would rather be home schooled, just because its public school doesn't mean that everyone learns the same. I get the gist of physics and it isn't difficult but i'm the type of person that needs to be explained to in detail step by step.

  13. Mrs.Ego before I begin to respond to your blog I would like to apologize. I'm sorry for not putting as much effort to your class as you would like for your students to. I know that I can do better than what I have shown you. The grade that I received on my progress report was a real eye opener. I can honestly tell you that I have never been good at science, which is ironic since I want to be an engineer, but I really want to learn. I've never had a good science teacher and you are by far the best I've actually learned the most this year compared to last year at Nimitz. I think science is really cool and fascinating I just seem to have a hard time remembering stuff.

  14. AP means "Advanced Placement". I would say that the "Advanced Knowledge" shown and given by the students towards a specific subject is what makes a class an AP class. An AP class prepares you for college by giving you work that takes more thought into solving the problem while a regular class just gives you the credit that helps you graduate. The benefits of being in a AP class is that it challenges you and prepares you for similar and greater challenges you would face in college. I should continue to be in AP physics because I'm actually trying to understand the concepts we learn each and every day. If there's something I don't understand I ask my classmates or the teacher until I thoroughly understand. Also if i have or got a low grade on any test i will do corrections to get the best grade I can to stay in AP physics.

  15. An advanced placement class is for students who are able to undergo a lot of work and work faster than most of their peers in regular classes. In addition, an AP class is beneficial to a student because it gives the student a chance to receive college hours if he/she passes the AP test, unlike a regular class. I should continue to be in AP Physics because I'm a very determined girl and i really want to comprehend physics so that i can pass the AP test. Whenever you teach us something new in class i understand it fairly easy but it seems as though as soon as i walk out of school..poof... i completely forget. I'm planning on making flash cards that way i can refresh my memory on things that i learned.

  16. As many know, AP stands for Advanced Placement. In AP classes, one must really work hard in order to achieve a good grade. AP teachers usually teach faster than other teachers, therefore one must be really attentive at all times. However, AP classes offer more opportunities for students. They would be surrounded by other bright students and could get help from each other when needed. Also, if a student passes the AP test at the end of the year, then college credit would be rewarded meaning that money would be saved in their future. I believe i should continue in AP physics because it would really motivate me to keep working harder and to not become lazy. I've always worked really hard to obtain my goals, and i'm working extra hard in your class. It's very beneficial.

  17. For me AP means more than Advance Placement, it represents an opportunity to grow in responsibility and to think outside the box. The reason why is because compare to a regular class an AP class goes more in depth within the subject and challenges the students ability to solve rigorous problems. Indeed, an AP class compare to a regular class offers a chance to earn college credit at the end of the year by taking the AP test. In addition, by taking an AP class the students receive more GPA points than regular students. On the other hand, I'm willing to dedicate as much time possible to this physics class in order to be successful and bring out the best out of me. Furthermore, I believe that I have the potential to thrive within this class, but something that I would have to change in order to accomplish this would be, getting less distracted and being more dedicated like I have done before for any other AP course. Moreover, I believe that I should be able to take the AP test at the end of the school year, because I have a good record of passing AP tests with a 4 or 5 and since I was able to get a 5 in calculus, I think that I would be able to do the same for physics since both courses are closely related.

  18. AP means advanced placement meaning high skilled classes that consist of college level material. For an AP class the students are required to take a test at the end of the course to receive college hours for that class, however in a regular class you do not take a test to receive college hours. The benefits of being in an AP class are that by taking this class you are preparing yourself for college by learning college material. In a regular class there are not necessary benefits, you are taking the class for just a high school credit. I am confident that I can excel in this class only if I study on a daily basis and rid of any distractions such as not sitting by my friends in the class room. I should continue AP Physics because although I am experiencing temporary difficulties at home, I will go beyond this and achieve a perfect grade on the exam. I am willing to buy many study aids to help me achieve the goals I have set for myself in AP Physics. What I need to change to be more successful in this class is my surroundings, I am always distracted by my friends and never fully learn a topic while my peers on the other hand comprehend the material. You should recommend me because, if given the chance, I will study my butt off for that test.

  19. AP is an advance placement program created for students to take college-level courses during their high school career. There are many reasons I have chosen to take a class like this one. First, a class like this one prepares you for college. The work we get in this class is so much more than a regular class. There is homework everyday and we take many notes. You must study for a class like this one. Second, by taking a course like this one you impress college counselors who review your applications. Showing that you have taken many of these courses lets them no you are serious about school and seeing that you have passed the AP test demonstrates your college readiness. Third, if you pass an AP exam you save money for the course you could taken in college. The more classes you get out of the way the more electives and fun you can have in college. Finally, an AP class can also help you choose your major by showing you what your abilities are in different courses and what you should consider. These are also benefits on an AP class vs a Regular class. A regular class has none of these benefits whats so ever. AP physics is so much harder than regular physics that I took last year. All concepts are more intense and go a lot more in depth. While I might be struggling, I know that I must work harder. I do want to have the opportunity in taking the AP test for this course. I know it will take intense studying and staying for tutorials. I am willing to put the work while others will not. I will try very hard and if i don't understand something I will make sure to ask for help. Now that I have said all of this I will do as I said. Starting with tomorrow at tutorials. I do need help with homework and hopefully tomorrow I can get it and be able to do it on my own. And once I can do it on my own I can teach it to others and be able to study it and apply it on the AP test.

  20. Obviously AP mean advanced placement class but there more than that to it. In ap physics we go deeper into the meaning of stuff we did in pre-ap physics last year. Another thing that makes an AP class is that we have to put our own time in in order to get a good grade. The students have to study harder than in the regular classes because there testing to see if we understood the material into depth. Also AP gives you college credit which can give us a head start in college and also looks good on our transcripts if we did good. I think i should stay in AP physics and be allowed to take the AP physics test because i feel like if i practice more i can at least get a 3.I do the homework and i get alright grades on my test but i make silly mistakes on the test. I also ask questions when i don't understand so that isn't a problem i just need to apply myself more.

  21. AP means Advanced Placement, so the work is not as easy as a regular class. A student taking an AP class has to think faster and ahead in order to stay ahead and not fall behind. Any AP class is a very different concept to the same class, but at a lower learning level. AP is a choice as well as a privilege. I struggle a lot in some of my AP classes and yours is one of them. I tend to wait to get things done and that is something not to do when in an AP class. I don't understand something on many occasions, but for some reason refuse to ask questions as if I am going to get in trouble for it. I want to be able to pass this class, but this class does challenge my learning ability, I am willing to take on the challenge and change my ways as an AP student.

  22. AP Physics means that its an advanced placement class and and the work given, rigor, and workload is greater than a regular physics class. The benefits of being in AP physics class is that if you love the subject (like I do) then you'll enjoy the lectures and teachings because they're a lot more in depth compared to a regular class. I should stay i this class because I'd be willing to stay after school every day to grasp a subject or study for a test. The only thing I lack is being able to do homework with so much going on out of school, I'm forced to do physics homework in order to fully understand the subject though. I strongly think I should take the AP exam because I've noticed that I give it my all when its a test and if during a lesson I didn't catch something I'll learn it while testing.

  23. AP classes not only are they more challenging than regular classes , but also require a lot more time and organization. Having to keep track of assignments is a must and not an easy task. Deadlines are always closer than they appear and tests are as well more difficult. The benefit of being part of an AP class is obtaining more GPA points. Something I need to change to pass AP Physics is actually staying on point with my assignments , for instance this blog. I obviously miss the deadline but I still feel like is important to turn it in. This class is a daily challenge for me, I'm not the brightest when it comes to remembering things , such as equations but I am willing to take on the responsibility of spending time outside the classroom to study ahead and be prepare for the AP exam.

  24. ap physics does really require more studying than regular classes and you really have to fully comprehend everything because if you miss one note, that will throw you off. The benefit of ap classes is that it does give you more gpa points and gives you a chance to obtain college credit hours if you pass the test. I am not going to lie I am really struggling and I am very very confused and lost in class. I have began to start reading the textbook and I really need to begin to stay for tutorials.

  25. AP stands for Advance placement. Sometimes I feel that I do not belong in this class because I do not think I am able to keep up. I took this class because I believed it was gonna be easy to me which it has been for the most part. I understand the material. But my problem is I'm having trouble applying my knowledge and demonstrating that I actually know the material. Unfortunately, that is a personal problem and in order to keep up I must change my habits. I'm lazy and if I go home I right after school then I will not get any work done at home because of distractions. I know now it is a must for me to come to at least one or two tutorials per week. I know this course will make my GPA look better if I do good but I if I fail there is nothing impressive about that. I promise to catch up and pass the AP Exam.

  26. AP stands for advanced placement which means you're taking a course that is above average and may often be at the college level. AP classes require more time and organization than most if not all Pre-AP or regular classes require. You also have to do much more work which is also more difficult. The difference between taking an AP class and taking Pre-AP/regular is that in AP you are given the chance to take a test at the end of the year which determines if you will receive college credit for that course which is very beneficial. I am willing to devote any time needed to making sure that I succeed in AP Physics. Since AP Physics exam is my 3rd period I will make sure to really use that time wisely and make sure all of my work is finished correctly. I will make sure to focus during class and ask questions about anything that I may not understand. Overall I need to stop procrastinating and do everything asked and make sure to do it at an advanced level since it's an AP class.

  27. AP classes aren’t just a way to be able to earn college credit or to look good on an application, these courses that so many students sign up for are actually there to provide a challenge, and to set an example of the challenges students are sure to face when they go to college and no longer have a teacher that will guide them step by step through the course work. As a senior in high school, it is important for me to prepare myself, now more than ever, to be a college student. Personally, I think that the material being taught is not difficult to learn and understand. The problem I have with this class, is completing my homework. Most of the time, I just forget about what has been assigned to us. The times that I do the homework and struggle I usually just give up. Form now on, I will start referencing the book whenever I have trouble or start stopping by after school and ask questions.

  28. AP is an advanced placement course overseen by college board to help students who are gifted in subjects and want to take a test to show colleges that they know their material while in high school. Well an AP course class should be expected to do more course work than a regular class or a pre AP class. They are suppose to be difficult because the students are going to be tested on material that are not easily conquered. The overall benefit between an AP course class vs a regular course class is that students in an AP are given an opportunity to earn college credits while in high school while regular classes do not have that option unless registering themselves. There are a few reasons that I should remain in an AP course class. One reason that kept me going back to science is how matter work. Matter is composed of atoms and on a subatomic level, atoms just seem to stick together. Honestly I believe it has to deal with something with electrons, protons, and neutrons but I was fascinated by it at a young age. Then there was the video that I had previously saw around May where people are not actually touching each other. It has to deal with the negative pulsation between atoms as we are constantly repelling. That would mean that we are actually not touching each other or touching other matter in fact. I guess a few things I should be changing is stop relying on thinking that I know the material even though I don't. Homework should be a priority rather than something to do at the last minute because well, if I do a homework the last minute. I probably will not absorb the information. And the final reason that I should be a candidate for the AP physics test is that I am tenacious. I keep a firm grip on what I do learn and know or what really pulls me in. Once I get things going, I will do well.
